The British Hamper Company is a family business which began trading in May 2014 and now offers a range of 60 luxury British gift hampers, picked and packed to order and delivered worldwide.
The hampers celebrate diverse and delicious goods from Britain’s leading artisan and independent food and drink producers, sorted into categories based on the content, occasion or recipient, and beautifully presented in ‘typically British’ gift boxes or traditional wicker.
In an already saturated market, The British Hamper Company needed to differentiate its product offering in order to succeed. Careful thought and planning would be required to design a website to communicate its unique selling proposition, achieve product ‘standout’ and target discerning customers worldwide.
TJS looked into the search terms used by web surfers to source hampers and deliberately selected those which focussed on searches for luxury hampers to be delivered abroad.
We used a search engine-optimised landing page for the search term ‘Hamper to COUNTRY’ (e.g. ‘Hamper to Australia’), resulting in the number one position on Google for the majority of the 57 available delivery countries or regions.
Each landing page lists only the hampers which may be sent to that particular country and hides any hampers which may not, because of market-specific restrictions.
The content of each hamper is listed and the customer can click on each item to read further information about what the special nature of that product.
The site has a user-friendly ecommerce system, and the hamper prices shown include delivery, calculated by weight and destination, so there are no ‘hidden’ extra costs at the checkout, making it easy for a customer to choose a hamper within their budget.
The website has a content management system which The British Hamper Company can use easily to modify all aspects of copy, products, prices and individual country import restrictions, without the need to engage the help of a TJS web developer.
The site now also appears in other countries’ Google searches, so orders are being received from overseas to be delivered to countries outside the UK – e.g. a hamper ordered by a business in New York as a ‘Thank You’ gift to a recipient in Dubai.
Most hampers are bought for special occasions such as birthdays or Valentine’s Day, so website has a date system within the checkout facility, which allows customers to select the exact delivery date.
With a focused Adwords campaign, social media campaign and Google Analytics search engine optimisation, data are analysed according to site search queries, contact form submissions and sales, and the website is then modified to meet the needs of customer buying behaviour and maximise business growth.

Within three months of launching the site, it was being displayed on the first page of Google organic listings for very competitive, high volume keywords, which is a monumental success in a very competitive market.
