The Brief

Lincolnshire Sport’s mission is for ‘more people to be more active, more often’.

As part of this drive, it needed to provide county residents with a ready source of information about sport and leisure clubs in their locality.

To facilitate this, Lincolnshire Sport asked TJS to design a mobile web app; The Lincolnshire Sport Activity Finder.

The app needed to work on desktop, tablet and mobile technology, and be easy to access and use for both the activity providers and the general public.

Certain ‘Key Performance Indicators’, or ‘KPIs’, were to be measurable in order to demonstrate return on investment. These were:

  • The number of activity providers registering their clubs on the site
  • The number of individual activities available
  • The number of visitors seeking information
  • The level of public engagement with the site

The app also needed to be promotable via widgets, which clubs could use on their own sites to raise awareness.

Our Solution

TJS designed the Activity Finder app, which allows sports clubs and activity providers to upload details of their sessions, venues and times quickly and free-of-charge, whilst enabling the public to select activities from a drop-down menu, then input their postcode to find a club in their area.

Google Analytics reporting tools measure all of the above KPIs and also measure how many surfers telephone or email for more information, or go on to visit the provider’s website.

The Edge

The Lincolnshire Sport Activity Finder app offers superior functionality and user-friendliness to both provider and searcher alike.  It provides detailed information on the activities:

  • Contact details
  • Suitability for different genders
  • Level of experience required
  • Cost
  • Course and session frequency
  • Equipment needed

The app was launched on 19 January 2015, with a target of at least 500 activities to be uploaded by July.

By March over 700 activities had already been uploaded on app, and the expectation is that this will reach 1000 within the first six months – i.e. double the original target.  With more than 130 activity providers at over 300 venues across Lincolnshire, the site recorded nearly 1,500 unique visitors in the first quarter.

This far exceeds the level of information and traffic offered by competitive sites, and is clearly due to the apps’ accessibility and ease of use.
