Site optimisation

Here are Google's design and content guidelines. See how TJS ticks the box for each requirement.

Google is very public about their recommendations for achieving a high rank with their site. Their design and content guidelines suggest the following:

Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links.

Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link. TJS build all their sites to valid W3c XHTML 1.0, W3c compliant CSS. This presents the content of the site in the best possible format.

Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site.

TJS will build a dynamic XHTML sitemap for your site as per Google’s Webmaster Tools requirements.

Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.

TJS will work with you to present your services in this way. We provide professional copywriters who can support you if required.

Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it.

TJS Content Management System empowers you to manage the meta information Google values so highly.

Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images.

Our designs encourages you to use text instead of images so key information is available to Google. We are highly skilled in employing sIFR, a Google readable technique that allows you to use non-standard fonts.

Make sure that your TITLE and ALT tags are descriptive and accurate.

Our Content Management System will prompt you to include these when adding new content.

Check for broken links and correct HTML.

Google’s Webmaster Tools will be available at site launch. This powerful set of functions will check for broken links and correct HTML.

If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few.

TJS, as a matter of course, use Vanity URLs. A URL is another name for a web address which is written to be readable to both humans and Search Engines. Traditionally web addresses have been long and full of strange characters. They might look like this:

www.tjs.co.uk/ID=43ret/location=28

A Vanity URL would change this to read

www.tjs.co.uk/web-design-seo-lincolnshire/web-development/site-optimisation-for-google.htm
