Background

As the largest antique centre in Europe, Hemswell Antique Centres are situated close to the historic city of Lincoln.  The centres support over 250 dealers of antiques, fine art and vintage items, who display hundreds of thousands of products across four buildings. 

Dealers also sell their products via the company’s website and Hemswell has worked closely with TJS since 2008, constantly evolving and growing their successful ecommerce website; in the past year, the website has welcomed almost half a million visitors. This close partnership has allowed the business to keep ahead of its competitors, and now, with technology mature enough to invest in improved product photography, it was time to develop a way to add a higher volume of professionally photographed products to the website, rapidly and efficiently.

The Brief

The broad spectrum of products available at Hemswell, from small, delicate pieces of fine jewellery to substantial 12-seat dining tables, required photography equipment that was sufficiently versatile to cope with as many types of products as possible. 

TJS worked closely with HAC to specify the 360 degree product photography equipment and software that would provide the level of efficiency required to expand output on a massive scale. TJS then needed to establish the optimum way to integrate this photography software with the website and Web Team workflow in order to provide a seamless process for all parties.

 

Our Solution

TJS, having previously developed a fully functional Dealer Dashboard (allowing dealers to manage their product listings), then worked to integrate the new photography options available as part of the new photography suite; 'Upload your own photos', 'Pro photos', or '360 degree presentation'.

Once image options have been chosen and the product is submitted, the Web Team Dashboard automatically assigns the product to be photographed to the appropriate machine ‘queue’, based on product dimensions and weight.

Once photographed, the dealer dashboard and photography software immediately set the new product live on the website, streamlining the process greatly.

The overall result has lifted the presentation of the dealers’ products, leaving the website visitor in no doubt as to the quality and condition of the item presented. With innovative 360 degree presentations and additional feature ‘hotspot’ images (highlighting specific areas of interest on a product) there is no limit to the variety of items that can now be added to the website.
