What we did:

Background

In 1973, The Lincolnshire Wolds were designated an Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB) and the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service was formed to raise awareness of The Wolds. Working in partnership with a Joint Advisory Committee, the LWCS protects the landscape, promotes sustainable development and encourages community interest and involvement.

TJS’s professional relationship with The LWCS dates back to 2012 and in 2013 we developed their current, bespoke website, which was developed to provide information on the work carried out by the service and to promote the landscape.

The Brief

The LWCS needed a new website that would meet the challenges of the 21st century in terms of accessibility for the end user. Their existing site was starting to look tired and needed a complete refresh following brand guidelines, that would work well with their new branding. The LWCS wanted a platform that all staff members, regardless of technical ability, would be able to maintain and update.

Moving forward, some projects that featured on the existing site were to be developed separately into standalone sites, resulting in the need for the new website to have a more streamlined content with more external links.

Importantly, the website needed to be as accessible as possible to as many users and therefore meet stringent Accessibility Guidelines.

Our Solution

Our designers and developers have created a bespoke website with a cleaner, fresher look and more streamlined content, fully optimised for mobile and desktop platforms. The revised menu is extremely user-friendly and the new site map and search function allow visitors to the site to access information more easily and efficiently.

Where projects have been removed from the site, links have been included to drive traffic forwards and a clear call to action inviting visitors to subscribe to the email has been included throughout the site.

Additionally, the area of the site devoted to the exploration and discovery of The Lincolnshire Wolds by visitors, has been developed to include dedicated pages for each type of activity. The pages feature detailed information with links to maps and publications, enabling visitors to the area to maximise their time here.

At TJS, our websites are built to conform to Google's requirements and best practice to help give the client the very best chance of online success. Building the website correctly from the ground up also assisted greatly to ensure the site met stringent Accessibility Guidelines. Using a number of different Accessibility benchmarking tools (Such as Google Lighthouse, WAVE and Access Assistant) we could ensure the site is accessible to as many users as possible.

Lincolnshire Wolds website performance scores at launch.
